[electronic translation] On February 7, 2023, Governor Hans-Peter Doskozil and the managing directors of ÖAMTC air rescue, Reinhard Kraxner and Marco Trefanitz, announced at a joint press event in Eisenstadt that the yellow Christophorus emergency medical helicopters would continue to take off for their life-saving missions in Burgenland in the future .

New location in the north of Burgenland

In addition to the continuation of Christophorus 16 in Oberwart , the construction of an additional base in northern Burgenland was part of the tender and thus a prerequisite for the award of the contract. Negotiations about a suitable plot of land in the Zurndorf area (Neusiedl am See district) have now progressed so far that – if all the permits have been granted – construction can begin before the summer. The new emergency doctor helicopter with the call sign Christophorus 18 is therefore expected to take off in 2023.

Reinhard Kraxner

Commercial manager of ÖAMTC air rescue:

” Christophorus 16 has been stationed in Oberwart since May 2005 and has flown more than 16,000 missions since then , more than 1,200 last year alone. We are pleased that we continue to use our many years of experience and our medical, technical and aeronautical know-how for the people of Burgenland can.”

Marco Trefanitz

Operational Managing Director of ÖAMTC Air Rescue:

“For us, the award is an order to guarantee the usual quality of care by our highly professional crews day after day. The aim now is, together with the state of Burgenland, to quickly implement the stationing of a second emergency helicopter in the north of the state .”
