Commercial operator Helicompany, which also operates as Atlas Helicopters, is moving its southern UK base from Lasham to Elstree today, 1st March. The company’s northern UK base will remain at Harrogate.

The move to Elstree puts the company’s Leonardo AW109SP and one of their two Airbus AS355Ns just eight minutes flying time from The London Heliport at Battersea and thus more ideally suited for the demand in the UK’s capital city.

Previously their southern base at Lasham was around 25 minutes flight into London.

Elstree Aerodrome has seen a big expansion of rotary wing activity in recent years, most notably a new base and maintenance hangar for Sloane Helicopters, the UK Leonardo distributor. All of the company’s new deliveries are now via Elstree, and market intelligence specialists Parapex Media advise that Sloane are taking approximately 50% of the entire AW109SP production in each of 2022 and 2023. In April 2022, we reported that there were ten AW109SP GrandNew helicopters on order at that point in time.

The Aerodrome is also home to the busy training schools Elstree Helicopters and Ice Helicopters – the latter of which changed ownership late last year.
