Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Naď confirmed that part of the notified compensation for the provision of thirteen – unusable for Slovakia – MiG-29 aircraft and part of the KUB air defense system refers to the offer of the United States of America for twelve new, modern combat helicopters AH-1Z Viper together with accessories. pilot and technician training and sophisticated AGM-114 Hellfire II rockets.

“This offer is really very advantageous and will significantly increase the defense potential of the Slovak Republic. Currently, we do not have combat helicopters at all, so this would be a completely new combat capability,” said Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď.

The value of the material offered is slightly over 1 billion USD. Of this, approximately 660 million would be USD provided to Slovakia through the American defense government fund FMF. The Slovak Republic would thus pay approximately 340 million in the horizon of 3-4 years as part of the planned defense budget.

The head of the Ministry of Defense reiterated that several countries were interested in the technology in question, therefore he evaluates the US decision to provide the technology to Slovakia as extremely positive. At the same time, this step can be seen in the context of indirect compensation for the announced delay in the delivery of American F-16 fighter jets.

Both sides will be ready to approve the intergovernmental agreement on the offer after the MiG-29 fighter jets and parts of the KUB air defense system are handed over to Ukraine.
