The helicopter was returning to its base in Macedo de Cavaleiros, Bragança district, after carrying out a medical emergency mission to transport a seriously ill patient to the Santo António Hospital in Porto. The accident was located some 4-5 hours after the helicopter was reported missing. All four on board died in the accident, named in this report as pilot João Lima, co-pilot Luís Rosindo, doctor Luis Vega and nurse Daniela Silva

Pilot Felicisimo Taborlupa was killed in the accident, and Archimedes “Archie” King, founder and owner of the Victoria Court motel chain died later at the Martin Marasigan Memorial Memorial Hospital in Cuenca. The six injured passengers were named as King’s wife, Ling-ling, Tatler Philippines editor-in-chief Anton San Diego, Christopher Chilip, Patricia Chilip, and model-designer Tina Maristela-Ocampo and her husband Rico.

AW109 Helicopterhit crane and crashed to ground, killing the pilot Pete Barnes and one person on the ground, Matt Wood. Top of the crane may have been in the cloud – check photos on the second link below. The crane is marginally south of the H4 heliroute, which has a 1500ft restriction at this point. Weather likely to have led to flying lower, but as a twin would technically not be restricted to following the routes. Helicopter was en route Redhill to Elstree, but diverting to Battersea due to low visibility. Pilot named here as Peter Barnes. 13 people hurt on the ground.

Aircraft was involved in shuttle operations transporting people to/from the funeral of the father of Oronto Douglas, one of the President’s aides. Pilot tried to divert to a local airport because of limited visibility due to bad weather. Helicopter crashed in open field and was extensively damaged. All three “minor to moderate” injuries – Pilot Scott Wallace and medics Teresa Campbell and Rhett Drahe.

Crash landed at Ranchi Airport due to tail rotor problems.Â Local reports suggest that pilot made a high speed landing on wheels and the helicopter then turned over up to six times as a result of this landing.Â However, it meant that all survived and the 6 POB have already been declared “out of danger” by Apollo Hospital.Â Occupants included Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda and his wife Meera.
Reg VT-VKS assumed as this is the only 109 operated by Aryan Aviation (stated as the operator of the crashed aircraft) and theÂ DGCA record for VT-VKS corroborates the age of the aircraft from reports
Whilst manoeuvring for landing at a private helipad, the helicopterâ€™s tail rotor blades struck an adjacent fence. The pilot received no unusual cockpit indications and was unaware of the tail rotor strike until after shutdown.
While emergency crews were working the first crash scene, an intoxicated car driver bypassed emergency vehicles and crashed into the tail fin of a Careflite helicopter that had landed in the middle of Highway 287. The helicopter was disabled and unable to transport the original crash victims to hospitals.

Just prior to touchdown the tail rotor struck a hedge and a concrete post, damaging the tail rotor and its gearbox. There were no injuries. On arrival at an industrial depot the normal landing position had been obstructed by two articulated lorries.
While cruising at 150 kt at 750 ft agl a bird struck and shattered the left windshield.Â The commander, seated in the left seat, suffered minor injuries so the co-pilot took control and made a successful emergency landing.Â The Agusta A109Câ€™s windshield is not designed to withstand bird strikes and the regulations do not require it to do so.
Fatalities were Charles Stisted, 47, chief executive of the Guards Polo Club at Windsor, owner Ian Wooldridge, 51 of demolition company Wooldridge Group and the pilot was Anthony Joseph Smith, a former RAF and Army pilot
Began to taxi when the pilot heard a loud bang combined with a strong jerk. The tail rotor gear unit was found lying on the ground. Closer inspection found one tail blade broke and caused the whole tail rotor gear unit to separate.Â 9th February, not 6th as previously reported
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the helicopter in an obvious difficulty when one of its doors followed by a rotor blade falling off from the sky. They said they watched the helicopter going on a free spin before a loud bang followed apparently when it eventually crashed killing all four on board
