26-Sep-16 D2-EYI Bell 430 Malongo, Angola (6F)

All six occupants died when the helicopter crashed en route to a Chevron oil platform off the Angolan coast.  The helicopter left Malongo port in Angola’s Cabinda province on Monday at 1523 local time to make the short journey to the Tombua-Landana offshore oil platform but never arrived.

During an air display, the helicopter was approaching a hover but porpoised – during this the main blades contacted and cut the boom, causing the helicopter to crash from low level.  Video of incident on YouTube here.  Pilot and co pilot seriously injured

Accident caused the deaths of the captain of the aircraft, chief-inspector Tiago Casimiro, his assistant, João Adelino João Brandão, as well as the workers of the Provincial Electoral Commission, Lourenço Mussenoho and Maria Augusta João.
