The commercial pilot reported that shortly after picking up a bucket of water from a pond he gained airspeed and initiated a climbing left turn back towards the fire. As the helicopter started to climb, he heard a drop in RPM and the helicopter lost power. He attempted to continue the climb; however, the helicopter was too heavy. He released the water and landed the helicopter on a mountain side; subsequently, the helicopter rolled onto its right side.
Crashed into river, taking some power lines with it. Pilot Fred Wittlake, 55 suffered a broken arm and broken ribs. The two passengers were two state Department of Fish & Wildlife biologists – Holly Huchko, 34, suffered a broken back, and Eric Himmelreich, 35, broke two vertebrae
Logging operations – it appears the pilot released the logs, indicating he knew of a problem prior to the crash. Witnesses then saw a rotor separate from the helicopter followed by it turning upside down and falling to the ground. Pilot was named as William Bart Colantuono, 54, of Indialantic, FL
Operating for US Dept of Justice, and with Harney County Deputy Sheriff Chris Nisbet on board, the pilot was involved in a federal, state and county marijuana eradication program. Reported engine failure. Tail boom chopped, port skid collapsed, helicopter on port side
Crashed into a truck during a Christmas tree lifting operation, injuring the pilot. The helicopter was left without blades and tail boom, and heavily damaged in the cabin area.
