Ornge, Ontario’s provider of transport medicine services, is proud to congratulate Patrick Auger, an Ottawa‐based Ornge critical care paramedic, for winning the Tim Hynes Flight Paramedic of the Year Award from the International Association of Flight Paramedics (IAFP).  He was presented with the award at the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference in Nashville, Tennessee earlier today.

Auger, the first non‐American to take home this award, began his career twenty years ago.  On top of his full time role as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic, he is a well‐respected educator both within Ornge and at paramedic colleges throughout the province.   He has authored a chapter in a national paramedic textbook, speaks regularly at regional and national conferences, and has delivered paramedic and disaster management courses internationally.  Pat is currently enrolled in the Master of Education Program in the Center for Medical Education at the University of Dundee (Scotland).

Pat has also taken a leadership role at several national events. He was the Incident Commander of the Medical Assistance Team during the G8 summit in 2010, a hospital fire in 2007, and the emergency evacuation of a remote community in 2005.

“Patrick exemplifies the values of compassion, collaboration and innovation that are at the core of what we do at Ornge,” said Dr. Christopher Mazza, Ornge President and CEO.  “His excellence, professionalism and commitment to the field of transport medicine are an inspiration to his colleagues.  I join with our entire organization in offering congratulations to Patrick for this well‐deserved honour.”

“Pat successfully combines superior bedside skills and knowledge from almost two decades as a flight paramedic with a mastery of the principles of medical education,” said Dr. Russell MacDonald, Medical Director with Ornge.    The Tim Hynes Award recognizes exemplary abilities in leadership, education and safety within the paramedic profession.   Every year, the IAFP selects an exceptional paramedic who has demonstrated leadership and paramedic professionalism.
