The Evansville, Indiana, Air Evac Lifeteam base has been selected as the company’s 2012 National Community Service Base of the Year. The Community Service Base of the Year Award is presented to the base in the Air Evac Lifeteam system that has shown outstanding community service in its market area.

Lonnie Dardeen, program director for the Evansville base, said it was a great honor to receive the national award. Dardeen started with Air Evac Lifeteam as a flight paramedic in 2005, and took over the role of program director in 2008. The Evansville base takes pride in its community, and Dardeen said all members of the team work hard to reach out to members of the community.

“We’ve taught more classes in the last year than anyone in the entire region,” Dardeen said. “We’re able to impart our knowledge and really get involved with the community, and that is what Air Evac Lifeteam is all about. Through our training and outreach classes, we are able to save a patient’s life before he or she ever gets injured.”

The Evansville base is located at 617 E. Delaware on the Deaconess Hospital campus.
