Meet radar altimeter requirements with Garmin

The last day of Heli-Expo is upon us and it’s been an exciting three-day event at the world’s largest helicopter show. Garmin is thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event and even more excited to see our customers and bring them tools to make their flying safer and easier.

Last year, the FAA introduced new radar altimeter equipage requirements for Part 135 helicopter operators, which must equip by April 24, 2017. Garmin’s high performance GRA 55 radar altimeter and GI 2015 stand-alone indicator provide these operators with a timely and comprehensive bundle to address this requirement. Garmin’s high performance GRA 55 includes patent-pending digital signal processing technology, leveraged from our high-end GRA 5500 radar altimeter, that works to provide smooth altitude tracking, resulting in a consistent and highly accurate above ground level indication. The GRA 55 also incorporates patent-pending built-in self-test monitors that continuously cross check system and data integrity, assuring the pilot of an accurate indication in even the most challenging environments, such as rough terrain, tree canopies, sand and choppy water.

Our GTN series touchscreen GPS/Nav/Comm avionics are also designed to withstand and meet the stringent helicopter vibration and temperature testing standards. The GTN series for helicopters offers three helicopter-specific databases including:

1) Obstacles, which adds 30,000 low altitude obstacles
2) Terrain, which features a level of resolution that’s among the highest in the industry
3) Helicopter Navigation database with 7,000 additional heliports

Plus, optionally incorporating HTAWS provides helicopter operators with both visual and audible alerts of potential terrain or obstacle conflicts. Garmin also has an AML STC for Part 27 rotorcraft for the installation of the GTN 650/750 and GMA 35 remote audio panel. Be sure to check out the AML STC to see if your helicopter is covered or swing by our booth for more details!

As the last day of Heli-Expo comes to a close, we’d love to show you our latest safety enhancing solutions for all of your flying. Stop by for a quick demo at the Garmin booth (#809) today!
