The $3 million helipad plan for Banff’s Mineral Springs Hospital is no longer needed. Alberta Health Services was made aware of this when STARS air ambulance relocated their new Augusta Westland-139 helicopter from Calgary to Edmonton.

The proposed helipad construction was scheduled to begin in 2016, but due to tendering costs it was delayed, much to the relief of Senior Program Officer Steve Rees. Rees has reported that he would have “felt sick” if they had finished construction and later found out it was not necessary. They do plan on minor upgrades to the helipad, reports Rocky Mountain Outlook, but it definitely won’t be a $3 million task.
